WikiWeb ist der Name für ein offenes Autorensystem für Webseiten. Der amerikanische Softwareentwickler Ward Cunningham schrieb Ende 1994 die erste Software für so ein System und nahm es im März 1995 in Betrieb. Der Name des WikiWeb kommt übrigens vom hawaiianischen wiki wiki (= schnell) und bedeutet also "schnelles Web".

Die Quintessenz des WikiWeb ist, dass hier jeder vom passiven Konsumenten zum aktiven Autor von Inhalten werden kann. Das verändert den Charakter des World Wide Web. Aus einem mehrheitlichen Prospekt- und Bestellsystem wird ein offenes Land, das in Besitz genommen und gestaltet werden kann.

Ängste vor dieser Realität gewordenen Anarchie im Internet (= herrschaftsfreier Raum) sind durchaus verständlich, aber weitgehend unbegründet (siehe WarumEinWikiFunktioniert).

WikiWeb is the name of an open authoring system for web pages. Ward Cunningham, an american software developer and consultant, invented it in 1994 and started his first collaboration system (the "Portland Pattern Repository") in 1995. By the way, the name WikiWeb was taken from the Hawaian wiki wiki (= quick) and means "quick web".

The essence of the WikiWeb is that it allows you to become an author of webpages instead of just being a passive user. This changes the character of the World Wide Web from an commercial advertizing space to a collaboration space.
